Grenada

Situated at the southern end of the Windward Islands, Grenada is one of the most beautiful of the larger Caribbean islands. The interior of this volcanic island is filled with cascading rivers and waterfalls, lush rainforests and spectacular mountain lakes along with a startling variety of plant and animal life. Brimming with unusual tropical flowers and fragrant spice trees, it is deservedly known as The Isle of Spice. It is now one of the world's foremost producers of nutmeg and also cinnamon, mace, ginger and cloves. It is blessed with many golden sandy beaches.

Characteristics
Friendly and relaxed and although the tourist industry has become more significant in recent years, particularly around Grande Anse, the world famous beach in the South West where most of the larger hotels are located, the island's easy rhythms and the friendly openness of its residents evoke an atmosphere that has long since vanished elsewhere. Grenada is rich in history and cultural heritage and the capital, St. George is believed to be the finest city in the Caribbean.

Beaches The island is ringed with miles of picture-perfect sugar-fine white sand and entrancing black sand beaches and coral reefs . As well as Grand Anse, there is Morne Rouge Bay, Magazine Beach and Pink Gin Beach further West, together with Prickly Bay and La Sagesse Bay on the South Coast to name but a few.

Things to Do Sailing, diving, snorkelling and swimming. whale and dolphin watching, deep sea fishing and kayaking. Hiking in the rain forest, guided Island tours, including the rain forest. Jeep adventure tours, boat trips to neighbouring Islands including Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Shopping There are some good supermarkets at Grande Anse Bay. Excellent fruit and vegetable market in St Georges.

Restaurants & Nightlife Good selection of restaurants and quite lively nightlife, mostly based at the Grande Anse hotels. There is a night club at Morne Rouge Bay, close to Grande Anse.

Getting Around Plenty of taxis, jeep/car rental companies and buses.

Getting There International airport at Point Salines in the South West with direct flights from the UK, Canada & USA.
