St Martin
Similar to many of the Caribbean islands, Saint-Martin is characteristically volcanic and mountainous. However it is blessed with some wonderful white sandy beaches and is unique in that is shared between the governments of France and Holland. The North part is called St Martin and is French administered whilst the Southern part is called Sint Maarten and is Dutch administered. It is actually the smallest territory in the world where two foreign powers co-exist amicably.

Beaches
There are 32 beaches on the island, 20 on the French side and 12 on the Dutch side. They vary from quiet and peaceful beaches where you are unlikely to see many people to those located close to hotels where most sorts of water sports are available

Watersports that include surfing, windsurfing, wake boarding, jet skiing, kite surfing, paragliding, water skiing, kayaking and sailing. Diving, walking, riding, cycling and quad riding.
Shopping
Excellent shopping particularly in Marigot (French) and Philipsburg (Dutch). Duty free so very good for most luxury goods, including jewelry, cameras, hi fi, watches etc. Chic and fashionable boutiques in Marigot. “Visitors will find everything that the affluent world considers prestigious.”

Princess Juliana Airport in the Dutch area is an international airport with direct flights from Paris (Air France), Schiphol (KLM) and flights from USA and Canada. Also handles regional flights from throughout the Caribbean. Grand Case Airport on the French side handles regional flights from other French Caribbean island including Saint Barthelemy and Guadeloupe (with connections to Paris).
