Tobago
A lovely unspoilt island lying 21 miles to the North of Trinidad with a central spine of hills rising to 1,860 ft. It has tropical rain forests, alive with the sound of birds, the iridescent flash of butterflies, colourful orchids, Heliconia and Hibiscus and spectacular waterfalls. There are coral reefs and beautiful deserted beaches, many visited by turtles who lay their eggs on the beaches every year, including the endangered Giant Leatherback Turtle.Population: 50.000

Characteristics
Friendly, relaxed and informal with a good mix of both locals and visitors. The main tourist area is in the South West tip around Crown Point, where there are a number of hotels, bars and restaurants. Many wealthy Trinidadians have their holiday homes on the island.
Beaches
Some very good white sand beaches on the North coast between Englishmen's Bay in the North (central) to Pigeon Point in the South West. There are beach bars and restaurants which are mostly in the South West.
Things to Do
Sailing, diving, snorkelling, swimming, walking, bird-watching, golf (championship course at Mount Irvine).
Shopping
Some well stocked small supermarkets and there are good fruit & vegetable stalls. Souvenir booths at Store Bay.
Restaurants & Nightlife
Good selection of restaurants around Crown Point, Mount Irvine and Scarborough. Quite lively nightlife with live music which is mostly restricted to the hotels and bars around Crown Point and Store Bay.
Getting Around
Plenty of taxis, vehicle rental companies and buses.
Getting There
International airport at Crown Point with direct flights from UK, Europe and North America. Shuttle flights to Trindad.
Currency
Trinidad & Tobago (TT) Dollar but US $ usually accepted.
