Virgin Gorda

The little known island of Virgin Gorda is definitely one of the prettiest islands in the Caribbean, blessed with many archetypal beaches that rival the most beautiful in the world. This gorgeous spot is quiet and peaceful, therefore the ideal venue for a get away from it all type of holiday. It is renowned for its appealing coves, safe anchorages, delightful yacht harbours/marinas and stylish exclusive villas. The northern half of the island is mountainous with a summit of 1,500 feet - Gorda Peak National Park, the highest point on the island, while the southern half is flat and scattered with giant boulders.

Beaches
A National Park made up of a series of small sea pools lying beneath a canopy of giant granite boulders. These beautiful sheltered light-filled grottos create a unique setting in which to swim and explore. Snorkelling along the outside perimeter of both The Baths and Devil's Bay reveals an area rich in colourful fish and coral.

Things to Do
Little Fort National Park is the site of a Spanish fort whose stone walls are still partially intact. This 36-acre area also functions as a wildlife sanctuary. The Copper mine Ruins, on the windswept southwest point of Virgin Gorda, are also worth a visit. Boat hire, yacht charter, day sail, diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing trips and also sailing tuition are available. A trek, either on foot or by vehicle across the island, one can experience some seriously dramatic views.

Shopping
Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour features grocery stores, bakery, drugstore, restaurants, boutiques and a dive shop all in one convenient location. A wide selection of good souvenir shops are available throughout the island.

Restaurants & Nightlife
Restaurants offer a wide assortment of cuisine from freshly caught local Caribbean seafood, (particularly lobster) to your Italian favourites. Live music regularly throughout the island. ‘Mine Shaft' has sunset copper hour daily and monthly full moon parties.

Getting Around
There are an ample number of taxis, jeep hire companies and ferry services to neighbouring islands.

Getting There
There is a small runway taking private charter aircraft. These can fly from Antigua, St Thomas (USVI) or San Juan, Peurto Rico, the nearest intercontinental airports, and a regional flight from Beef Island (Tortola). There is a scheduled regular ferry service from Road Town, Tortola (45 minute trip) and another from Beef Island, to North Sound, Bitter End and Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda, though prior booking is necessary for these services.
